What is with e-cigarettes. It seems the people that smoke them have to buy the biggest machines possible that kick out so much smoke that if you get stuck behind someone smoking one you can barely see where you are going! Seems to that there is more of a passive smokging issue with e-cigarettes that there was with normal ones.

no-cycling-signThis may be just a personal view, but I always thought that this sign meant No Cycling!

This is obviously not the case as cyclists in and around London and the South East seem to completely ignore it. I have even been almost run down by a cyclist whilst standing next to a sign just like this.

It is all age groups who seem oblivious to the sign as well. Older cyclists are just as bad as the younger ones and are often riding just as fast!

I believe this is one of the most pointless street signs in the UK as cyclists ignore it and no-one appears to enforce it. I am sure local authorities could save thousands by not bothering to put up a sign that is ignored by everyone!

We are in the middle of winter. With dark and stormy sky’s the dark mornings are even darker.
Despite all this I still see cyclists riding along the road, wearing dark clothing, on bikes with no lights! In some cases they are even riding on the wrong side of the road and running red lights!!
Do these idiots have a death wish?
I have nothing against cyclists in general, in fact I used to cycle a lot in my younger years, but these idiots are the sort of people who give cyclists a bad name.

So the rail company I use to commute in to London introduced a new timetable today.
The new timetable means I need to get a train eight minutes earlier from my home station.
The journey in to London today seemed to be a lot more ‘stop start’ than usual and this resulted in me getting to work five minutes later than usual!!
This is not a good start.
Why couldn’t they leave well alone!!

So here we go again. Tube strike number two. Managed to leave work early but the trains are already getting busy.
Just for once this is not a strike about money! This time it is about work / life balance. For that I have some sympathy. It’s just a shame that the only way the unions have of making a point is by creating problems for everyone else.
On the bright side, at least it means I get an extra day working from home tomorrow.

So I have just been thinking about the car I would most like to own if money was no object!

Here it is, a 1969 Dodge Charger R/T

The ultimate would be one with a 426 Hemi V8 with a four speed manual transmission.

  • Dodge Charger R/T 426 V-8 Hemi 4-speed, model year 1969, version for North America U.S. (up to September)
  • 2-door coupe body type
  • RWD (rear-wheel drive), manual 4-speed gearbox
  • petrol engine with displacement: 6974 cc / 425.6 cui, advertised power: 317 kW / 425 hp / 431 PS ( SAE gross ), Torque net: 664 Nm / 490 lb-ft
  • characteristic dimensions: outside length: 5283 mm / 208 in, wheelbase: 2972 mm / 117 in
  • reference weights: estimated curb weight: 1780 kg / 3920 lbs
  • how fast is this car ? top speed: 230 km/h (143 mph) (theoretical);
  • accelerations: 0- 60 mph 5.4 s; 0- 100 km/h 5.6 s (a-c simulation); 1/4 mile drag time (402 m) 13.9 s (a-c simulation)
  • fuel consumption and mileage: average estimated by a-c: 20.4 l/100km / 13.9 mpg (imp.) / 11.5 mpg (U.S.) / 4.9 km/l

All these figures are for the car as it left the factory in 1969!

At Tower Hill tube station in London there is currently a lot of building work going on. As A result of this access to the station involves negotiating temporary ramps over curbs, walking down a short flight of steps and then climbing a large flight of steps to reach the station entrance.
What is the purpose of all this work? To create a step free access to the station!!

I really couldn’t believe my eyes this morning when I read the article about the IOS8 Wave hoax!
The hoax says that once you have upgraded your iPhone to IOS8 you will gain the ability to charge your phone by putting it in a microwave for about a minute and a half!! I just couldn’t believe that people would believe that an OK update could achieve something like this, or that a microwave would somehow not affect a phone that has a metal construction!
Some people are just incredibly gullible.

So there I am sitting on this packed train the other morning trying to have a doze on the way to work. The train was packed to the gills with standing room only.

There was a young guy sitting in the isle seat of the the three seats opposite me who was starting to doze off. The next thing I knew there was this strange hissing noise somewhere on the train that was so loud it sounded like a problem with the train! It turned out to be the guy opposite who had his head back and was snoring his lungs out.

The girl sitting directly opposite looked at the guy, then looked at me, and the pair of could not help but laugh. To make matters worse he then rested his head on the shoulder of another girl sitting in the middle of the three seats! It certainly made the journey to work that day a lot more entertaining!!

Why is that the people who make railway carriages can’t make seats wide enough for the average population?
Today I got sandwiched up against the train window by a large lady who wanted to read her news paper. I suppose I can’t really blame her, but there simply wasn’t enough room on her seat for her rather ample behind.
It would be really nice just to have a comfortable journey, especially with the current price of train tickets!!
