My Christmas was quite eventful this year. On Boxing Day I was taken into hospital with Covid induced pneumonia. The coughing and shortness of breath made for a scary experience!
I ended up spending five days in the hospital on oxygen while being pumped with antibiotics and steroids. In the back of my mind, there was the thought I might never make it out of hospital. This was especially true when seeing people younger than me suffering more extreme symptoms than me.
I am lucky to be home now and, hopefully, making a full recovery, but the aching joints and the feeling of exhaustion still lingers.
One thing that became obvious during my hospital stay was just how overworked medical staff are. They are severely overworked because of sickness and staff shortages and are often working repeating thirteen-hour shifts. This is crazy and backs up all the demands for more investment in the NHS in the UK.
